World AIDS Day: Ending it with a Shiver then a Smile

To end World AIDS day on both a serious note and a less serious one, I’d like to point out that AIDS is only a killer if we don’t deal with it face on. As a society, we are so focused on finding a cure that we often forget that it’s not the only way to deal efficiently with AIDS. I was too young to remember the days when the world first came face to face with AIDS, but I was old enough to remember the repercussions; I was part of the generation of children who grew up in the shadow of whispered allusions about AIDS.

So talk about it. Ask your questions. Start conversations. Read about it. And, most importantly, don’t let your vision of AIDS be one of ignorance.

Below are two videos: one the Australian government produced in the 80s warning the population about AIDS. This is a low we must never sink to again. The second video is only there to make you end your day with a smile; it’s a 2007 spoof of the same video.
