As a long-time **coughsnoteventwoyearscoughs** parent, I have been reading even more, lately, about the harmful effects of non-organic food in our health.

On the one hand, I do not wish to become an alarmist, claiming that something (in this case, non-organic book) is the answer to all our woes.  I believe in a balanced approach to everything; in this case, my instincts tell me that there are some pesticides that can be used while others should be banned, but that corporations, focused on profit rather than consumers’ health, are most probably using, in large part, the unhealthiest pesticides because they are the most cost-effective.

I try to avoid alarmist literature in an effort to remained as balanced and fair as possible.  But every once in awhile, a title from both sides of the argument catches my attention, and I can’t help but pick it up.  André Leu’s Poisoning Our Children: The Parent’s Guide to the Myths of Safe Pesticides falls straight in this category of books.

With the recent, significant increase in attention being given to my blog and the influx of emails and comments, I thought to try something brand new.  Instead of posting a review of a book after I have read it, why not post an “About to Read” type of post?  I’m hoping that by presenting a book that I want to read to you, dear reader, and asking for your opinion before reading it, would allow me to engage with the book differently, as well as have, I hope, a broader and more rounded review to share.
