When you find a bright ray of sunshine in a world that can often be dark and dreary, you tend to cling to it. Glaiza Villanueva-De Leon has brought such a ray of light into her corner of the blogosphere. Launched near the end of 2013, Oh My Glai is, in Glazia’s own words, “the pursuit to learn, create, and inspire through stories of travel, food and life’s lessons.” Another thing I really appreciate about her blog is that it comes from the perspective of someone who was born and raised in the Philippines and who currently lives in Singapore, which makes her posts quite different from the majority of those on my reader, which are for the most part by North American bloggers.
Glai’s blog has three main objectives: to help her live a blissful life and continuously learn from it; to have a creative outlet with a purpose; and to inspire others by spreading positive vibes. She thoughtfully provides five posts to give newcomers a good feel for her blog: she interviews herself here, the regular lists of seven inspirational things she posts, a list of all her travel related posts with great pictures to book, her blogroll, and a list of her guest posts, features, and collaborations.
The layout is magazine like, making it easy to choose which kind of post you want to read. The simple and minimalist light pink, black and white layout allows for the many pictures Glai posts to really pop out, while the category menu at the top of the page helps hone in on what readers might be in the mood for. The blog makes for a great middle of the afternoon break, as do Glai’s Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter accounts.
