About the book:

Sahar's Reviews 2016 02 15 Book Review Cancelled Vows Lauren Carr 'Cancelled Vows'Police Chief David O’Callaghan and Chelsea Adams’ wedding day is fast approaching. Unfortunately, at the last minute, David discovers that there is one small problem to be taken care of before he can tie the knot—divorce his first wife!

Lauren Carr takes fans of the Mac Faraday mysteries to the Big Apple in this nail biting adventure. In Cancelled Vows, David, Mac, and Gnarly, too, rush to New York City to dissolve David’s marriage to an old girlfriend—and he’s got five days to get it done. When murder throws up a road block, it is up to David’s best man, Mac Faraday, and Gnarly, K9-in-waiting, to sort through the clues to get David to the church in time!

Book Review:

Warning, this one is a page-turner that will keep you up late at night even when you should really, really be going to sleep because tomorrow will be yet another long day.

Lauren Carr has created a series that can easily rival with some of the big names. That’s probably because there is weight to her book, weight that has been typically stripped out of mass produced, quickly turned around mysteries and thrillers that are meant to sell a story but not necessarily a brand or a set of characters. The pain-staking attention given to the various layers of the plot remind me a little of older mystery books I used to read, which were so much more satisfying that the mass produced titles we are bombarded with nowadays.

Well-written, engaging, and witty, the only complaint I have about this page-turner is the romance between two of its characters who fall in love within hours of meeting one another. On a personal level, while attraction can be instantaneous, to fall in love with someone takes a little longer than a few hours; saying “I love you” after less than a day cheapens the sentiment, which is a pity because in all other aspects, this book is not cheap or doesn’t cheapen anything.

Then again, this is a personal sentiment that I was easily able to momentarily shelf to enjoy the book, and enjoy it I did.

Although I do think that the author owes me one for the sleep she stole from me.

Thank you to iReads Book Tours for providing a copy of this book for me to review!
