Epiphanies and Realisations: Most People Are Kind, and Most People Want to Change Things

Trying to contribute to the betterment of the world starts with bettering ourselves, our families, and our communities.  It’s empowering to work on oneself and to see the changes in one’s personality; I regularly hit up my old journals and am amazed by how ridiculous I sound to myself a mere year later!

For those of us lucky to have a family with whom we can grow, old email exchanges can make for some very amusing reading, as well as encourage us to continue tackling the various skeletons and ghosts that haunt our relationships.

When it comes to the community, society, and the world, it becomes a little trickier.  As far as I can tell, there isn’t always a way of figuring out if things have gotten better.  Actually, scratch that; nowadays, I feel that we are being told, left, right, and centre, that everything is getting worse, and there is nothing we can do about it.

But an epiphany I had back in 2008 while dealing with a badly sprained ankle still holds true today: most people are not mean, they are just unaware—totally and completely unaware.

That epiphany has led to another one: most people want to make the world a better place, but they just don’t know how.

This holds so true that I have kept on blogging all these years, sharing all the various ways that every single person can make a big impact on the world.  Because everything single place you want to go to in life depends on taking that first step.

In recent months, I have been overhauling the blog to make sure that this message gets to more people.  It is important for everything to arise and contribute to making things better, however small their contribution might seem.  And I say “seem” because no contribution is small.  The butterfly effect, however cliché, also holds true.

And so, dear readers, here is to the next nine years, learning together how we can make the world a better place, and bringing more and more people into the fold.  Because we can do it; it’s just a matter of taking that first step, then the second one, then the third one, and so on, so forth.

{ Sahar’s Blog is all about being in a constant state of learning.  So it only made sense for me to go back to all my previous posts and see how my thoughts on certain topics have changed over the last nine years.  In this new, ongoing series of posts, I’ll be rereading some of my older posts and reflecting on the same topic in light of what I’ve learned since then.  It’s going to be very interesting to see how things have changed! }
