The use of poetic writing makes for an interesting and heartfelt ride courtesy of author Euphonos. In Pieces of Time, she welcomes us into Linda’s word made vivid through descriptive prose. The main protagonist is a hopeful romantic who believes in the classical definition of love and is willing not only to wait for it, but also to take some necessary steps to make it happen. There is, in my opinion, a big need for stories about this type of love, and I am quite happy that someone with the potential to write well is penning this type of story.

Euphonos’ choice of poetic writing makes for a great setting for the development of Linda’s character by welcoming us into her inner world. By the end of the book, I felt like I knew a lot about Linda. It also builds a safe context in which readers to be welcomed into a reflection about the concepts of relationships and gender dynamics, as well as those of pain, kindness and loss.

However, there is still a lot of work to be done for Pieces of Time to go from an interesting read to a gem, and I believe that there is potential for this to happen, as some sections of the book shine brightly, sometimes even breathtakingly so. And so, while the writing in Pieces of Time is a little choppy, with confusing breaks in the story rather than the elegant tangents poetic writing often creates, it might be worth reading just for the opportunity to be able to see how Euphonos grows as an author.
