Marc 7’s sophomore album When Sounds Attack, Vol. 1 is slated to be released next month, a year after his debut Food, Clothing & Shelter. It adds to Marc 7’s portfolio eight new heartfelt, enjoyable, and thought-provoking tracks, reflecting again that he is talented and comfortable rhyming about even the most difficult of topics. The album’s fanfare-inspired opening, “The Show”, “Buckshots”, and “Come 2 Par” are clear throwback tracks going back to the 1990s, both in rapping style, choice of rhythmic, thumping melodies, and in the relative simplicity of the track, which features only a couple of layers.

At times it feels like Marc 7 has slowed things down a little because he enjoys dropping each word so much. He also makes great use of a choir in both “Lose You” and “Make a Way”. In the latter, the choir-led soulful background melody to this track contrasts with Marc 7’s detailed, meticulous rapping. This head bopper will make you reach for the volume knob in the car as part of a relaxing, evening off soundtrack.

One good album isn’t enough to prove an artist’s worth. But just like its predecessor, his second album When Sounds Attack features tight lyrics, great rhyming, and clean production. Marc 7 is demonstrating that his talent just might bear fruit to a number of excellent albums. His music is available for streaming on SoundCloud.
